fxSolver is a solver for engineering and scientific equations.

Scroll down below for a quick intro.

Here's how to get started:

Add one or more formulas to the Solver
Solve for any variable
When entering values, lists (arrays) can be used

PPI can be calculated from knowing the diagonal size of the screen in inches and the resolution in pixels (width and height). This can be done in two steps

STEP 1 : Diagonal Resolution of Screen

Using the Pythagorean theorem, for 3 different screen resolutions:

1. Diagonal Resolution - Pixels
dpdiagonal resolution in pixels (dimensionless)
wpwidth resolution in pixels (dimensionless)
hpheight resolution in pixels (dimensionless)
Variables...
variable dp wp hp
units
= = =
solution
STEP 2 : PPI Calculation

Using the Diagonal Resolution from the previous formula we calculate the PPI for 3 corresponding screen sizes :

2. Pixels Per Inch (PPI)
PPIpixels per inch (1/inch)
dpdiagonal resolution in pixels (dimensionless)
didiagonal size in inches (this is the number advertised as the size of the display). (inch)
Variables...
variable PPI dp di
units
= = =
solution

Results:

10.1 inch tablet screen of resolution 1024×600 : 117.5PPI
21.5 inch PC monitor of 1080p resolution : 102.46PPI
27 inch PC monitor of 1440p resolution : 108.78PPI
